UAB’s No Shave November campaign for prostate cancer awareness underway
Join the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Department of Urology in a “No Shave November” competition to raise funds for UAB’s Program for Personalized Prostate Cancer Care.
The annual campaign encourages individuals to grow out their facial hair to spark conversations and draw attention to the critical public health issue facing so many families impacted by some of the biggest health issues faced by men, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.
“Our UAB No Shave November is important for all of men’s health, but particularly in raising awareness about prostate cancer,” said Soroush Rais-Bahrami, M.D., interim chair of the Department of Urology. “No Shave November serves as a powerful fundraising platform, with a primary goal of supporting the UAB Program for Personalized Prostate Cancer Care — a program that is at the forefront of innovative research and personalized treatment strategies for prostate cancer, making it crucial in the fight against this disease.”
All UAB Blazers, as well as the Birmingham community, are invited to participate in the beard-growing competition. To donate, create a new team or join an existing one, please visit https://go.uab.edu/noshavenov.
Rais-Bahrami says discussions of family history or personal experience will increase public awareness about screening, early diagnosis and impactful treatment options for prostate cancer.
