Q: Why did you choose the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center to partner with you in this journey?
A: I was referred by my primary care physician. He and two surgeons felt that Bart Rose, M.D., was best able to meet my needs.
Q: What has been the most challenging part of your experience?
A: The long, exhausting, seemingly never-ending journey
Q: What is the biggest win you’re excited to share?
A: I am grateful to be alive, and I look forward to some good years of making worthwhile contributions to others.
Q: What is a fun fact that not many people know about you?
A: I have a wry sense of humor.
Q: What is your favorite hobby?
A: Gardening. I’m amazed by beautiful growing things!
Q: What is the next place on your travel bucket list?
A: Gatlinburg, Tenn., where my wife and I went on our honeymoon 62 years ago
Q: Favorite TV shows?
A: “Gunsmoke” and “The Closer”
Q: Favorite quote to live by?
A: “What goes around comes around.”
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in the Magic City?
A: Have brunch with my wife and family at our favorite restaurants
Q: What advice would you give to those just beginning their cancer journey?
A: Be prepared to do what is recommended by those who know.
Q: Is there anyone from the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center you’d like to recognize?
A: Dr. Rose and all of the wonderful people on my care team
Q: Beyond the appointments and treatments, was there anything in particular that helped you through the emotional and mental challenges of cancer?
A: My wonderful wife, my caring family, my strong faith in God, and a host of friends from work, church, and the past who have supported me daily – and prayerfully! It’s been an amazing journey.
