O’Neal CCC Administrator Asks Congress to Support Bone Marrow Donation
In this March 2023 video, Dorothea Staursky urges members of the U.S. Congress to approve a $2 million budget increase for the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program. Staursky is manager of strategic initiatives for the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the program she supports helps find matching bone marrow donors for people with diseases like leukemia, lymphoma, and sickle cell anemia. As a donor herself, she’s well aware of the odds against finding a match – which are worse for certain patients, depending on their ethnic background – due to the lack of registered bone marrow donors.
